There is an interesting story behind how Margherita Pizza was invented.
Long time ago, pizza was considered to be the food of the ‘poor’. Once, the Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita visited the city of Naples. They got bored of the rich food served to them every day and asked for a pizza. The Queen loved the pizza topped with cheese, tomatoes and basil. From that day onwards the pizza went by the Queen’s name – ‘Margherita’.
